Getty Images Cannes seminar features top directors

Getty Images, one of the world's leading imagery companies, will bring together leading directors Hugh Hudson, Tarsem Singh and Jake Scott at its seminar, ‘Advertising and the Movies’.
The seminar to be held during the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival will be in the Debussy Auditorium, Palais des Festivals on June 19 at 4pm.
Chaired by Lewis Blackwell, Senior Vice President, Creative Direction of Getty Images, the seminar will provide a forum for the glittering line-up to discuss and show the relationship between the short and long formats of film. It will offer delegates a unique and compelling insight into these fascinating genres.
Blackwell, who will chair the seminar, said: "What better way to capture the history, the challenges and perhaps a little of the glamour of advertising films than taking a close look at Advertising and The Movies? And who better to do this with than some of the pre-eminent directors of our day who are working across features, commercials and music videos? With Getty Images creating film for use across commercials, features and broadcast it was a natural choice."
British-born director Hugh Hudson started his a career in advertising where he teamed up with Ridley Scott to direct TV commercials. He then moved into the film industry where he is most famous for directing the Academy Award-winning ‘Chariots of Fire’, ‘Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan’, ‘Lord of the Apes’, ‘Revolution’, ‘Lost Angels’, ‘Life So Far’ and ‘I Dreamed of Africa’.
Director of the award-winning music video for R.E.M.'s 'Losing My Religion' (1991), Tarsem Singh brought his vast imagination and visual style to the silver screen in his feature directorial debut 'The Cell' (1999). He has transferred his film directing skills into the world of advertising by directing commercials for companies such as Isuzu, Levi's, Coca-Cola, Lee Jeans, Polaroid, Smirnoff, Vauxhall, Perrier, Audi, Volkswagen, Lexus, Infiniti, Nike and Microsoft.
Award-winning director Jake Scott also began his career directing commercials and was catapulted centre stage when he won a Bronze Lion for Blaupunkt's 'Blue Date'. Recently, Scott has completed work for Sprite, Gateway Computers, JP Morgan, Ericsson, K-Mart and won an Emmy Award for Nike's 'Move' (2001). Scott is also famous for directing music videos for bands such as U2, Radiohead, and the Smashing Pumpkins.
