BVE North Announces This Year's Speakers

BVE North 2013 has announced its lineup of speakers and industry experts for this year's show, which returns to Manchester Central on 12-13 November 2013.
James Rowley-Ashwood, Event Director, BVE North, said: "The calibre of speakers that BVE North has attracted serves to underline Manchester's growing importance as a broadcasting centre - visitors to the show will learn global truths and be able to implement them locally as this key region continues to develop. As well as high-level strategic sessions and practical technology-base workshops, we are particularly proud of our Skills Zone, which offers free invaluable advice to help content creation professionals develop their careers."
The Industry & New Technology Theatre offers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the North's key media organisations.
Highlights include:
  • Delivering the 2014 Commonwealth Games, in which Philip Malcolm, Procurement Manager, and Robert Hunt, General Manager of Venue Technology Services for Glasgow 2014 examine what they have learnt from the Olympics
  • Taig McNab, Technical Manager at ITV presents a look at the broadcaster's move to MediaCityUK
  • Revolutionising Production, Tom Sherry, Executive Producer, RED Production Company discusses how production companies are exploiting new technologies to reinvent workflows whilst enhancing content.
Other speakers include Marc Allen, True North ; Damien Carroll, Sohonet; Brian Hardman, The Farm North; Mark Harrison, BBC North; John Maxwell Hobbs, BBC Scotland; and Donna Mulvey-Jones, Maverick TV.
The new Ask The Experts Theatre will provide an opportunity to tap into the knowledge banks of some expert practitioners in their respective fields.
Russ Hughes and Mike Thornton of Pro Tools Expert lead a session on High End Audio Editing on Pro Tools, while Phil Coates, Producer/Director/Cameraman and International Expedition Leader tells Big Stories, Small Cameras, looking at the power of handheld.
In addition, Hasraf Dulull's VFX Post session aims to inform visitors about the 'smart use of VFX' in their productions.
The Skills Zone is also back, offering valuable careers advice for emerging talent. Topics include CV development and distribution, funding schemes, delivering a good pitch, protecting your IP, maximising your digital presence and understanding working rights.
