Sky Commits To Original Drama

Sky has announced plans to increase investment in original drama series, with four new projects to be filmed in the coming months.
The new programmes include a medical drama Critical, two new films for the Playhouse Presents... strand and a psychological thriller called Penny Dreadful.
"Running across Sky's portfolio of entertainment channels, and complemented by popular returning series, the new dramas reflect Sky's drive to bring more high-quality, exclusive programming to customers," a statement from the group said.
The new commissions are part of Sky's plan to invest £600m a year in British programming by 2014, amounting to an increase of 50% over three years.
The new dramas also include police drama Nightshift and heist-gone-wrong thriller Foxtrot.
Stuart Murphy, Director of Sky Entertainment, commented: "We're so happy with the dramas we've made so far, and I hope our new programmes will underline how much we put a premium on creative endeavour at Sky. We really believe that our philosophy of backing world class creative talent and pushing them to make their best work is the way to go."
The new commissions follow a selection of original Sky productions that will be coming to British screens in the coming months, including Sky Atlantic's 'The Tunnel' and 'Fleming', a series based on the life of the creator of fictional secret agent James Bond.
