Avid first on the European forensics scene

News Image
Avid Technology have announced the availability in Europe the Avid Forensic Tools package.
This feature-rich library of products and forensic video filters for law enforcement were created by Avid in conjunction with Ocean Systems.
The package which combines Avid’s uncompressed video technology, a powerful and versatile video acquisition and analysis platform, with Ocean Systems' dTective forensic video package, which enables forensic video examiners to extract the best possible evidence from surveillance videotapes.
The dTective system is being integrated and distributed by Matek Business Media under an agreement with Avid Technology and Ocean Systems to bring a complete package of systems, support and training to the forensic Industry.
Matek’s Managing Director Mark Budgen said “Matek is in a key position to provide the forensic and technical expertise to bring these products to market. By being the gel between Avid and Ocean Systems we can provide stable, mission critical solutions for forensic video analysis.”
Kieran Foster, Avid’s business development manager for Avid Forensic Tools in the UK, said: “The Avid/Ocean Systems package provides a total turnkey solution for today’ s advanced forensic video examiner. It enables analysts to perform a host of tasks from tracking images of a suspect in a large crowd to pulling readable license plate numbers from dark areas of video. In addition, the package is a totally flexible solution allowing analysts to work in the lab or at a crime scene.”
The dTective system allows analysts to easily collect, organise and clarify video data, either in the lab or at a crime scene. A key feature is its ability to capture uncompressed multiplexed images and then clarify the footage to expose hidden detail recorded within field-based video.
The system also provides a powerful asset management tool allowing the analyst to categorise evidence for case organisation. Investigators can also digitally archive their case information and provide fast, accurate and complete disclosure on CD-ROM.
Avid editing systems offer the ability to export uncompressed still images for disclosure purposes, eight video and audio tracks that enable multi-camera sync or multiplex overlay for demanding analysis projects, and motion effects that turn time-lapse surveillance video into realtime.
