BBC Technology chooses dB Broadcast

dB Broadcast, the Cambridgeshire based systems integrator, has won two contracts with BBC Technology Ltd in connection with this summer's Commonwealth Games, for which the BBC is the host broadcaster.
In order to fill the host broadcaster's role at the Games, which take place from July 25 to August 4, BBC Technology is providing a temporary International Broadcast Centre (IBC) to house its facilities and those of 12 Client Rights Holders, such as ABC Australia, TVNZ and RTM Malaysia.
BBC Technology will also provide 12 technical operations centres at various venues around Manchester, including Belle Vue Athletics Centre, Manchester Aquatics Centre, Manchester Velodrome and Bolton Arena.
dB's first BBC Technology contract is for the hire and installation of ancillary vision and audio systems at the 760-square-metre integrated International Broadcast Centre. Specifically, the contract includes three control desks, three stacks, 17 VTRs, 80 monitors and large quantities of Das and converters.
About 75 kilometres of cable will be required to link all the areas at the Centre and the 12 Client Rights Holders. All cabling will be installed by dB's own in-house wiring team.
The second BBC Technology contract for dB Broadcast is for the provision and installation of the vision, audio and communications systems for the 12 Technical Operations Centres around Manchester. Because the equipment cabins will not be available until after July 1, much of the facilities will be prefabricated and tested at dB's purpose-built manufacturing site, before being transported to Manchester.
Tom Swan, dB's director of sales and marketing, said: "Apart from submitting a competitive tender, we believe that an important factor in the choice of dB is our in-house logistics and project management teams who have a proven track record in delivering time-critical projects on schedule. This is something we had previously demonstrated with Crown Castle International, when we pre-fabricated and installed 500 racks of equipment at 81 different sites throughout the country. I also believe another influencing factor was our large in-house wiring team of 19, who work to consistently high standards."
