Datavision introduces portable drive for DV

Datavision, a market leader in the provision of innovative, digital video solutions for professionals and consumers, have announced the release of Datavision DV Drive - an ultra portable digital video device that delivers DV direct-to-disc storage.
The product allows users to capture digital video files from their DV camcorder to its hard drive via IEEE1394 FireWire without having to connect to another computer.
Using a record/stop button, users can transfer digital video to the drive via the FireWire while the DV camcorder is in either record or playback mode, eliminating the need for software-based video capture. The drive can accommodate up to one hour and 40 minutes of digital video, which can be imported via FireWire to a range of non-linear editors for PC or Mac.
"Videographers spend a lot of time capturing digital footage to their computer for editing, which results in potentially lost production time," said Tim Liggins, Managing Director of Datavision.
"This portable DV Drive allows them to shoot while the video is copied to the hard drive, virtually simultaneously, on site. When they get back to the studio, they will already have the files they need to begin editing, saving a great deal of time and improving productivity.
"We are very excited by this product because nobody can offer this BAL launches stand-alone DV signal extractor performance in this price bracket, making it the most cost-effective option on the market."
The Datavision DV Drive features a 20GB high-performance hard drive and a built-in rechargeable battery enclosed in a silver and grey case about the size of a PDA. It also incorporates a 6-4 pin FireWire cable, 6-6 pin FireWire cable, power supply and belt clip. When it is connected to a computer, the Datavision DV Drive is immediately detected as a drive volume and assigned a drive letter and can also be used as a portable external storage device or for data back-up. The rechargeable built-in lithium battery can be charged through the FireWire connection or by using the power supply supplied.
Founded in 1998, Datavision specialises in developing and supplying innovative products for the serious consumer and professional digital video markets.
The DV Drive will be available in mid June.
