Major new film studios open in the west of England

The Bath Studios, a film, television and media production complex with three sound stages and a ‘live’ stage, have opened at the heart of Corsham Media Park.
Located six miles from the city of Bath, the complex aims to be the most contemporary purpose built studio facility in the UK. The studios will create over 200 jobs for technicians and creatives, as well as opportunities for freelances and suppliers. The scheme is fully funded by the AlKemi Group, a leading developer and operator of specialist workspace solutions.
The demand for CGI techniques means that centres of digital excellence are highly sought after. The Bath Studios promise to provide the capability and resources to deliver the latest developments in acquisition and distribution.
Media and Communications Director for the AlKemi Group, Matthew Davison, said: "One of the Bath Studios unique propositions is their connectivity. Bandwidth is essential to the new film economy."
The Bath Studios are actively supported by the Bath Film Office, South West Screen and many leading industrial partners. With the resurgence of the British Film Industry, the West of England is now a leading a centre for talent, with easy access to outstanding locations, skilled labour force and climate.
The Bath Studios are based on a former secret military site set in 42 acres of park and woodland. The studios include a 20 acre secure back lot that provides complete privacy and the space needed for large scale special effects and street scenes. The studio complex includes sound stages, production offices, construction facilities, catering, make up and wardrobe, dressing rooms, preview theatre, edit suites, set stores, camera rooms, rehearsal studios and prop stores. This environment will support all traditional film and television crafts as well as a unique platform for other media.
AlKemi Group and their partners have already invested over £2 million in the £50 million Corsham Media Park.
