RTE Commitments presented to Irish Government
Patrick J Wright, Chairman of the RTÉ Authority, has presented RTÉ’s Statement of Commitments 2003 to Dermot Ahern, Irish Government Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources.
In November 2002, as part of RTÉ’s submission seeking an increase in the licence fee, they have promised to publish an annual Statement of Commitments – effectively a contract with the audience.
In the Statement of Commitments 2003 RTÉ makes specific promises to the audience in relation to improvement in services including an increase in home produced programming.
As part of their annual reporting RTÉ will show how each specific commitment has been met.
In presenting the Statement of Commitments 2003 to the Minister, Wright said: “The Statement of Commitments 2003 is RTÉ’s commitment to our audience. As Ireland’s public service broadcaster RTÉ has a proud record of setting high standards. Now, for the first time, our audience will be able to chart how RTÉ meets its commitments across our three output areas, as well as corporately, to the highest levels of accountability.”
