Directors Descend On Connemara Gaeltacht

BAFTA, IFTA & Emmy Award Winning Directors are to descend on Connemara in the west of Ireland this May and June, to mentor young filmmakers as part of a director’s workshop
The workshop and training initiative Scéal is run by Gréasán na Meán Skillnet, an organisation which represents a growing core of the various media industries predominantly based in the Connemara Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking community).
The course will give six novice directors the chance to create and develop new pieces of work under the tutelage of directors Declan Recks (Eden, Pure Mule), Paddy Breathnach (Man about Dog, Shrooms) and Dearbhla Walsh (Little Dorrit, Shameless).
From over 70 applications submitted to the Scéal initiative, just six have been chosen for development.
On completion of the workshop, each director will get to work on their short films throughout May and June 2013, with the final works being broadcast on Irish language channel TG4 later in the year.
The emerging directors will also be given the chance to discuss their individual scripts and filming concepts with their mentors.
The six projects have been chosen from and inspired by renowned Irish language short stories, poems and tales from folklore.
Each short film promises a modern, contemporary adaptation of ancient Irish culture and mythology, as well as a captivating insight into the talents of emerging writers and directors.
Gréasán na Meán Skillnet is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd supported through the National Training Fund by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
