RTÉ's Director of Radio awarded Harvard fellowship

RTÉ's Director of Radio, Helen Shaw, has been awarded a prestigious international fellowship at Harvard University.
Ms Shaw (40), director of radio since 1997, will take up the Weatherhead fellowship at Harvard University from mid-August 2002 for one year.
The Weatherhead Center for International Affairs is the largest international research center within Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences and brings together 20 international leaders every year to work on aspects of international affairs research and development.
Ms Shaw is the first Irishwoman to receive this honour and the International Women's Forum (IWF) – a Washington-based international leadership organisation for women – has also awarded her a scholarship for her fellowship programme. President McAleese is the patron of the forum's Irish chapter and Ms Shaw is an active member.
Helen Shaw is stepping down as Director of Radio in order to take up the Harvard fellowship and the post will be publicly advertised shortly.
RTÉ's Director- General, Bob Collins, in congratulating Helen Shaw, said: "It is a tribute to Helen, and her work as Director of Radio, that she should receive this recognition from both Harvard and the IWF. During her period as Director of Radio she has shown remarkable commitment and has never failed to put the audience first.
"A particular highlight of this part of her career was the launch of Lyric fm and we all share her sense of pride in the achievements of this newest of RTÉ's radio channels. We wish her well as she undertakes her fellowship in the Weatherhead Center," he said.
