Zest4.TV Purchases LiveCut

Multi-camera shoots have a painful bottleneck, the need for a cohesive multi-source ingest solution that works in a standard corporate workflow. Everyone in live events wants to record their footage so that they can use it quickly in Final Cut, Premiere or AVID.
The most well-known broadcast standard solutions for multi-source ingest are primarily designed for instant replay or as vision mixers and come with an expensive price as well as specialist operators. They are not sufficient for the job and record in tiresome formats that require slow copying or conversion. As a result, many multi-camera providers resort to a stack of now famous portable recorders with bespoke hard drives or fiddly cables and memory cards, no monitoring and no quick route to the edit.
Zest4.TV, in conjunction with Tools On Air and NMR, have changed all that. For over 2 years, Zest4.TV has been revolutionising the live event editing market using just:in from Tools On Air, and now they can reveal LiveCut, the missing link in every multi-camera set-up.
Commenting on the purchase of LiveCut, Zest4.TV's Managing Director Simon Roe said: "The purchase of LiveCut compliments beautifully our existing Tools On Air products and dramatically reduces post-production time. We have changed the multi-camera shoot forever and clients are still overwhelmed with how quickly the final product can be delivered. The solution is tried and tested and Zest4.TV are the acknowledged market leaders in fast turnaround ingest and edit services using the Tools On Air suite of products. Everyone considering the edit on a multi-camera production should talk to us about the time and money we can save them."
The Zest4.TV solution provides three tiers of service:
•Live Ingest
Using just:in software and the power of our 12-core MacPros and fibre RAIDS, we can monitor and record up to 12 channels of timecode-locked, frame accurate, video in ProRes or AVID DNxHD. We copy this footage to backup drives via USB 3.0 throughout the shoot. Within moments of the end of the shoot, all the rushes are bundled together on a hard drive for the client to take away and use on their own edit suite.
•Chase EditTM
Just:in allows us to simultaneously ingest and edit up to 12 channels of source video. We can start editing our footage the moment we press record. All the sources start recording simultaneously, so all the start points are in sync and no time is lost on the edit. Clients can even provide their own editors – no specialist knowledge is required.
•LiveCut
The revolutionary product, LiveCut allows us to connect our Live Ingest / Chase EditTM solution to the tally or GPI output of the shoot’s vision mixer. As the director makes his cuts or dissolves, a real-time vision mixer Edit Decision List (“EDL”) is created as an XML file, which can be instantly opened as a multi-camera timeline in Final Cut, Premiere or AVID.
Re-edits and post-production tasks can be immediately performed, even while still recording. Imagine the first edit being completed the moment the event has just finished. The client can even make real-time comments on the vision mix as markers on the timeline using their iPad or iPhone!
