EVS XT3 Aids 21st Gulf Cup Of Nations Coverage

EVS, provider of broadcast and media production systems, has helped a Qatar-based sports channels in Arabia broadcast the 21st edition of the biennial Gulf Cup of Nations football.
The competition kicked off on Saturday 5 January 2013. Al Kass covers domestic sports and provides extensive coverage of football, including major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and the AFC Asian Cup. For the Gulf Cup of Nations, Al Kass needed a solution to help it get the Bahrain-hosted tournament to air, so it looked to EVS to provide a suitable workflow. Al-Kass provided a fleet of OB vans for the live production and produced highlights packages from the main media centre at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Manama.
"We needed an integrated and collaborative workflow that would help us turnaround content faster and more efficiently," said Samer Younes, consultant engineer for Al Kass. "We relied on EVS’ expertise in live sport production to give us the tools to make this happen reliably. The project was a huge success and delivered great quality live football and highlights packages."
EVS provided an integrated workflow from ingest to playout based on its XT3 servers. Three eight-channel XT3 servers were used to ingest and playout feeds from the Bahrain National Stadium in East Riffa and Bahrain’s Khalifa International Stadium. Al-Kass used EVS' IPDirector suite of video production management applications for ingest scheduling, live logging, on-the-fly production of highlights packages, and for creating and managing playlists. Low-resolution feeds were streamed to an EVS XStoreNAS, where content was instantly available to operators to create the highlight packages.
The EVS system was fully integrated with an Avid ISIS, enabling clips from the XT3 server to be transferred to ISIS for advanced editing in high resolution. Once completed the edits were then transferred back to the XT3 servers for playout.
The UAE were crowned Gulf Cup champions after defeating Iraq in the Cup final on Friday 18 January.
