Astec Effectively Managing Transmission Chain SLAs

The advent of digital broadcasting and services such as conditional access control, HD, VoD, interactive TV and multi-screen viewing has resulted in the fragmentation of the broadcast transmission chain.
The resulting multi-party service provision increases the risk of errors and therefore breaches in SLAs.
Error probability increases exponentially with the number of service components. With ever-more complex transmission chains, how can content, broadcast, telecoms and transmission entities enforce and manage SLAs effectively, reduce contraventions and improve quality of service?
As nearly all equipment used in a modern broadcast chain can provide access to real-time status information via open communications channels, the ability to report on conformance, service performance and related metrics can be unlocked. As the signal traverses domains, a rules based SLA, including event, condition and action models together with procedural attachments, external data integration and typed logic will enable accurate reporting of inter and intra-domain SLAs.
Sophisticated systems can also include early warning alarms empowering the user to address a fault before it escalates and leads to a violation of the SLA.
Manufacturers and utility companies identified many years ago how technology can be used to solve these problems and at the same time improve output quality and consistency whilst reducing variation. The broadcast industry has the opportunity to take advantage of these proven techniques, rather than reinvent the wheel!
Getting the very best results from your broadcast platform is one area of expertise offered by Astec.
