Matrox will major on its MicroQuad, a budget priced, four-channel Quad SDI-to-HDMI multi viewer with a 10-bit scaling engine. Since NAB the additional, user requested features include a Windows-based app giving distance control via mini USB Type 8 cable, VU meters on the HDMI output, and a development library for OEMs who might wish to implement elements of the remote control app.
Aimed at live event and OB applications, this unit allows you to monitor four SDI inputs (SD, HD or 3G) on one HDMI display in quadrant view. You can also toggle to a full-screen display.
Hamlet’s big effort will fall in the area of portable field monitoring, the new products being the Precision HDW7 and HDWS monitors. Watchful of video parameters and focus continuity for producers, the HDW7 is differentiated by a 7-inch in-Plane switching screen.
It gives the user a stable response time and consistent and accurate colour display from all viewing angles. The HDW5 is smaller but offers the same feature set.
Claiming to build tools for the program makers he meets at shows, Hamlet MD Steve Nunney said: “By talking to people who spend their lives making and broadcasting programmes we have a greater understanding of what they need to put the best possible quality on the screen.”
Pixel Power has a new scheduling, asset management and automation system in one, called Gallium. This keeps graphics at the centre of play out requirements, and gives the user automated control of other Pixel Power functions such as graphics transmission systems and complete channel delivery. This involves the company’s ChannelMaster, renowned as a budget priced means of deploying extra channels
Avid’s product lines are reaching attractive maturity, and the latest to do so is Avid DS 11. An all encompassing editing, graphics and colour grading system, this offers you improved integration and wider flexibility, starting with Avid Artist Transport and Avid Artist Color.
Other features to look at are the blending modes on the timeline, the resolution independent canvas, HDR file support, Long-Gop MXF essence support, Red SDK, Avid DNxHD® 444, Kona 3G hardware support, and 16 Channels of embedded SDI. Cross fertilisation: users get Media Composer 6/Symphony 6 Conform, and DS 11 integrates with new versions of Interplay and ISIS.
Technology demonstrations worth finding will be the advances to FIMS in the EBU village, and the annex to DVB-S2, which now accommodates wideband transponders and introduces huge bandwidths in the hundreds of MHz.
Sony has produced an interesting natural replacement for the PMW-EX1, and has answered a lot of long-standing user codec requests in the process, with the launch of the PMW-200 XDCAM camcorder.
It has three 1/2 -inch Exmor CMOS sensors and brings the HD 4:2:2 50Mbps recording that users wanted. One performance advance is the capture of greater detail in bright and poor light.
The camcorder offers you a good mix of recording formats (50Mbps/35Mbps MXF, 35Mbps/25Mbps MP4 and DVCAM); it conforms to the latest EBU production recommendations; and, it has a useful Slow & Quick motion function enabling cameramen to capture at 1 fps to 60 fps in 720p mode and from 1 fps to 30 fps in 1080p mode.
It comes with a 14x zoom lens that has zooming, focus and iris adjustment rings, features a full-colour 3.5-inch WVGA (852x480) LCD panel, and gives the user a 15-second cache recording function. The media options are many, starting with Sony’s professional SxS technology. For Wi-Fi remote control an adapter is required.
