Technicolor Keeps Fast Girls On Track

STUDIOCANAL’s Fast Girls, from Director Regan Hall, follows the rollercoaster journey of a British female sprint relay team. Released in the UK on 15 June 2012, the film stars Lenora Critchlow (Being Human), Lily James (Wrath of the Titans), Bradley James (Merlin) and Noel Clarke (KiDulthood), who also co-wrote the feature.
Supporting a full digital pipeline for the Fast Girls production, Technicolor captured a complete archive of R3D files on a location RAID, as well as securing the master copy and second safety copy at its post facility in Soho, London. The full dailies deliverables were provided in ProRes 422 with correction LUT and sound sync supplied to the editorial team each day for Final Cut Pro edit as required. As part of the established digital workflow by Technicolor, all rushes were stored and archived on LTO at the Soho facility.
Technicolor’s mobile digital lab was installed on site, alongside the on location truck for day to day set moves. Technicolor’s on location services enabled full quality control and director playback on demand.
Fast Girls was graded using Autodesk’s Lustre. Technicolor Senior Colourist Dan Coles worked closely with Director Regan Hall and DOP John Lynch to set the look. Dan said: “We wanted to achieve a rich and vibrant look for the film, whilst maintaining a natural feel. We isolated and enhanced individual colour tones to suit certain scenes as well as using grads and vignettes to increase depth and the overall filmic texture.”
Technicolor is delighted to have provided services on such an exciting and topical project at its London facilities, especially in an Olympic year. This is the first time Technicolor UK has provided a full digital workflow on one production, right the way through from capture to post. It’s the perfect example of how Technicolor can offer filmmakers the complete package, from front end, through to mastering.
