Skillset chief awarded OBE in Honours List

Dinah Caine, Chief Executive of Skillset, has been awarded an OBE in the Birthday Honours List for her services to the media industry. She also becomes a Fellow of the Royal Television Society this week.
Ms Caine has been Chief Executive of Skillset since its inception in 1992 and has led the organisation through the transitions from Industry Training Organisation to National Training Organisation and now, most recently, to one of the first five Sector Skills Councils.
Prior to this she began her career as founding member of Intermedia, a successful training and facilities company for the independent sector. In 1989 she became Training Officer for the British Film Institute and then went on to become Training Officer for the union ACCT/BECTU.
Ms Caine has served as a Board Director of the London Film and Video Development Agency, the Central London Training and Enterprise Council, and the City of Westminster College. She is currently a Director of the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission, a member of the British Screen Advisory Panel, a Patron of the Sheffield International Documentary Festival, a Council Member of the London West Learning and Skills Council, Chair of the London Sector Skills Forum and sits on the London Skills Commission.
Dinah Caine said: “I am delighted to be honoured in this way, and accept this award on behalf of everyone who is involved with Skillset and who work tirelessly to ensure the continued development of the audio-visual industries. To receive this honour in the same week as being made a Fellow of the RTS is extremely gratifying, as it represents recognition from both government and the industry alike of all the excellent work which Skillset undertakes on their behalf.”
Clive Jones, Joint Managing Director of ITV and Chair of Skillset, said: “This is a richly deserved award for a person who has shown tremendous dedication, commitment and vision in raising the profile and importance of training in our industry. Dinah has achieved an enormous amount on our behalf, often against all the odds, and the industry is deeply indebted to her, and all the team at Skillset.”
