Broadcasting seminar to be held in Stornoway

The annual broadcasting seminar sponsored by Comataidh Craolaidh Gaidhlig (CCG) and Leirsinn Research Centre will be held in the Council Chamber of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar on Friday March 28.
The theme of this year's seminar is The Communications Bill: The Next Step.
An impressive array of speakers from academia, government and the broadcasting industry will address a range of topics including the past and future of Gaelic broadcasting, the implications of the Communications Bill, the expectations of the audience, the responsibilities of the new Gaelic Media Service, the potential for development, and the lessons to be learned from the experiences of other minority language broadcasters.
The political dimension of the Communications Bill will be explained by Anne McGuire MP, Parliamentary Under-secretary of State, Scotland Office, who said "The Communications Bill, once enacted, will deliver a new legal and operational framework for Gaelic broadcasting. For the first time we will have a body that can commission, hold licences and potentially, when resources and capacity are available, develop a dedicated service. The spread of representation and expertise on the overseeing board reflects our determination to base that on greater collaboration between all the key players, including broadcasters, in the interests of a better quality product for viewers and listeners."
The seminar will also feature the release of a new booklet describing Comataidh Craolaidh Gaidhlig's contribution to Gaelic broadcasting since the first CCG-funded television programme was transmitted ten years ago.
