BBC Staff Reject Pay Rise

The NUJ, Bectu and Unite have rejected the BBC’s offer of a 1% pay rise.
The BBC insists the proposal is "realistic in the tough economic climate", ensures a minimum increase of £400 for the lowest paid staff and is fair to workers who have had their pay frozen over the last three years. It also said the union’s demand for a rise equivalent to a 5.9 % was "unrealistic".
Negotiators representing thousands of BBC staff have however reacted angrily to the offer of a 1% pay rise and in result the affected BBC staff have rejected the offer.
Meanwhile this news comes as the broadcaster is slammed by MPs who say the BBC has been "unambitious" about potential savings and plans for increasing revenue.
A Commons Public Accounts Committee report said the BBC had underestimated the scope for efficiency improvements and it risked undermining public trust in its financial management.
The report recommends that the broadcaster publish how it expects savings to impact on the quality of its services, the level of impact it will tolerate and how it will respond if those levels are breached.
The BBC insist that they are delivering value for money and ensuring output quality remains high.
