Flipbook Bring Back Squirt Characters
Manchester based moving image, design and digital production studio, Flipbook, have been tasked by TBWA\Manchester to bring back the humorous squirt characters for the latest TV campaign for PZ Cussons brand Carex.
Flipbook worked with TBWA to re-create the popular characters whose physical composition mirrors that of the Carex hand-wash they promote. After modelling the squirts, the Flipbook team went about texturing and animating the characters, before compositing and lighting the characters into the live scene. To ensure the squirts appeared gel like and realistic, whilst sitting perfectly in the live action, Flipbook captured the HDRI lighting environment during filming and used a variety of skin effects to create the glutinous veneer of the characters. They then graded the entire piece in the online edit.
Part and parcel of creating convincing character-based CGI is making sure that the CGI blends in credibly with any filmed footage, coupled with compelling character animation that captures the personalities of the characters and matches the visual style/treatment required. Once the models have been created in 3D they can then be re-used over and over again for other campaigns across a wide variety of trans-media platforms.
The TV commercial is currently being shown at prime time on key terrestrial, satellite and freeview channels.
