Britain Shines At Golden Globes

The 2012 Golden Globes proved to be a good night for British television after Downton Abbey, Kate Winslet and Idris Elba bagged awards.
Titanic star Kate Winslet and former Wire star Idris Elba took home the main acting prizes in the television categories while the prize for best miniseries went to ITV's Downton Abbey.
Winslet was named best actress in a miniseries or movie for her role in HBO's Mildred Pierce, while Elba won the male equivalent for his role in BBC crime drama Luther.
Downton Abbey, ITV1's hit saga about the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants, has proved a huge success in the UK and its latest achievement showed it had also captivated audiences across the Atlantic. Previously the show scooped a prize at the Emmy Awards earlier in the year.
Meanwhile Meryl Streep won best dramatic actress for her portrayal of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the film The Iron Lady.
Elsewhere black-and-white film The Artist proved to be the big winner of the night, taking awards including best musical or comedy and best actor in a musical or comedy for Jean Dujardin.
