Domer To Star In Creative Storytelling Project

News Image
Young people across Northern Ireland, aged 7-11, will have the chance to create their very own story about Victoria Square’s Domer the Dinosaur, star of its monthly Kids Club, as part of a new project facilitated by Cinemagic and supported by Arts & Business Northern Ireland.
On Saturday 29th October and Saturday 26th November, young people will devise, design and produce a story quilt with Domer the Dinosaur as the central character. From 11am-2pm on each day, participants will have fun and learn new skills, under the direction of artist Jolie Dennison, as they compile a short story about their ideal day with Domer. This will be followed by devising a visual story by drawing and painting their ideas onto a canvas. The final creations will be exhibited in Victoria Square, Belfast and the story will also be digitally documented.
Joan Burney Keatings, Cinemagic Chief Executive said: “Cinemagic is looking forward to working with Victoria Square in the lead up to and during our festival activity in November. The workshops with Jolie will be a fun way of developing young people’s storytelling skills and being able to exhibit the final creation in the centre is a great way of showcasing young talent.”
Hugh Black, Victoria Square Centre Manager commented: “We’re delighted to support this initiative. There are so many talented young people across Northern Ireland and this workshop is a great opportunity for them to get involved in the arts. I’m looking forward to seeing the final creations in the centre and I’m sure the participants will get a lot of support from shoppers.”
Jolie Dennison added: “I'm passionate about nurturing the creativity of budding young artists, so I'm thrilled to be a part of this project with Cinemagic and Victoria Square. I can't wait to see what sort of adventures Domer gets up to when the children's imaginations take flight!”
The workshops are free of charge. To register a place for your child visit: www.cinemagic.org.uk
