FOCAL on the move

The Federation of Commercial Audiovisual Libraries has announced the appointment of Julie Lewis to the administrative team.
Having left her position as Manager of Granada Media Clip Sales, LWT last autumn, she welcomes the opportunity to bring her 25 years of experience in accessing and selling footage to the commercial archive business’ only international trade organization.
Apart from her many years as a film researcher and doing rights clearances for LWT, plus various clip sales roles with Index Stock Shots, ITN, and Granada, she has served ten years on the FOCAL Executive.
“I know the business” said Lewis “and I want to help take FOCAL forward, promoting our member’s archives, giving the membership value for money, enhancing FOCAL’s profile, getting more jobs for our researchers and setting up a training scheme for newcomers. Working alongside Anne Johnson, FOCAL’s Commercial Manager will be good – she has an inexhaustible drive and enthusiasm to spread the FOCAL message.”
The plan is that Lewis will predominantly look after the existing members, the marketing and administration, allowing Johnson more time to spend targeting new members, getting sponsorship and advertising revenue, as well as organising events.
FOCAL’s new website, www.focalint.org, is proving a great success under the care of web editor John Flewin, and Mike Archer, formerly of TWI is putting his stamp on ARCHIVE ZONES, the industry’s definitive magazine.
“The website is a shop front for our members and an invaluable tool for researchers to access their content,” continued Lewis. “We are now embarking on a series of “roadshows” around the UK to further promote the use of archive footage and stills and plan to be involved in an exhibition, exclusively for the archive business which should happen in 2003 - so we’re going to be busy!”
