Content West Heads East With NHK

MIPCOM has announced a division of Content Media Corporation has shipped its spectacular natural history series Wild Wales to NHK Japan.
Content Television supplied the series as part of a raft of international acquisitions for programming from the company’s Content West portfolio.
Wild Wales, which aired in the UK on BBC2, will debut to Japanese audiences later this year through a deal with national public broadcaster NHK. Filmed over a year using stunning aerial and wildlife photography, this 3 x 1 hour Aden Production is a unique insight into a country which showcases some of the natural world’s most diverse landscapes and wildlife.
High Fidelity HDTV, Canada’s leading all-HD broadcaster has also acquired rights to Wild Wales alongside the 5 x half hour natural history series The Secret Life of Birds, also from Aden Productions, which presents a fascinating exploration of all aspects of the behaviour of birds. Both series will air on High Fidelity’s popular nature channel, Oasis HD.
Viasat has signed three Content West titles for air throughout Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, including Wild Wales, The Secret Life of Birds and Anna’s Wild Life, a 8 x half hour fly-on-the-wall series by Barefoot Rascals, following the adventures of Anna Ryder Richardson and her restaurateur husband, Colin, as they run the Manor House Wildlife Park.
In further deals, Anna’s Wild Life has been acquired by Discovery in the UK for air on Animal Planet and The Secret Life of Birds will broadcast in Spain on Chello Multicanal’s Natura channel. DVD/Video rights to Wild Wales and The Secret Life of Birds have also been acquired by Go Entertainment for the UK and Time Life for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Greg Phillips, President at Content Television commented: “Content West continues to demonstrate tangible growth as we realise this raft of deals. It is fantastic to see these productions heading to all corners of the world through this range of new deals. Cardiff is one of the largest and fastest growing production centres in Europe, and Tim Morley and the team at Content West are doing a great job in sourcing and delivering internationally appealing programming in line with our global distribution strategy.”
