Directors Cut Expands With Move To Avid Media Composer 5

Tyrell CCT, a leading supplier of digital media solutions, has announced that the company has been appointed by London post house, Directors Cut, to upgrade ten of the facility's editing suites to Avid Media Composer 5.
The dynamic post firm has invested in the latest version of Avid's powerful editing solution to develop more efficient and simplified editing workflows for a growing number of new projects at the facility.
Directors Cut has recently expanded the facility with the addition of four more Avid edit suites in their new Great Portland Street premises. All suites are connected to Avid Unity Storage systems allowing the collaborative process to flow seamlessly from file ingest to final delivery.
The extra capacity will be used in a number of projects including a six-part Jamie Oliver series, ten hours for Wild Pictures and a six-part series made by the post firm's sister company Directors Cut Productions. Other clients that will benefit from the upgrades include, Fresh One, Atlantic Productions and Gogglebox.
One of the key features in Media Composer 5 that motivated Directors Cut to upgrade was the enhanced AMA (Avid Media Access) support. The ability to work with tapeless codecs, such as Apple ProRes, Canon 5D and RED, in their native formats streamlines tapeless workflows and removes the need to transcode to MXF media. With its simple 'plug-in' architecture, AMA allows third party vendors to make their codecs native to the Media Composer timeline and hence rapidly increases the speed with which new formats can be adopted and creatively deployed.
Andy Nicholson, Technical Director, Directors Cut, commented: "We pride ourselves at being at the cutting-edge of HD Post Production and managing complicated workflows for our clients. Tyrell CCT has been a long standing and valued partner in workflow solutions for Directors Cut. With this in mind, we have taken the steps of up-grading the suites to Avid Media Composer Version 5 enabling us to deal with the multitude of tapeless workflows used by modern documentary filmmakers. The Avid AMA workflows offer us the best solution to these complicated workflows, giving our clients the highest quality and most efficient service."
Mark Lynn, Managing Director, Tyrell CCT UK, commented: "The benefits of tapeless workflows are considerable, but can also be hugely overwhelming with the sheer count of codecs, media types, frame rates and colourspaces involved. Directors Cut engaged Tyrell CCT workflow consultancy service to ensure that they achieve a unified workflow based around Media Composer 5 and its AMA technology."
Tyrell CCT will host main stage demonstrations and showcase an extensive range of digital media solutions at Stand L22, Broadcast Video Expo, February 15-17 2011.
