Skillset Launches Occupational Standards For Law And Compliance

Over the past few years, the controversies surrounding Ross and Brand, the Ant and Dec phone-in scandal and the BBC's documentary, The Queen, have shaken public confidence in the trustworthiness and fairness of broadcasters.
In response to this, Skillset has developed a new suite of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Law and Compliance for Broadcasting.
These new Standards, which are also available in Welsh, outline the essential knowledge and skills needed by those working in broadcasting - and more widely in multiplatform environments - to ensure that they are able to retain the trust of audiences while making creative and compelling content within the framework of law and broadcast regulation.
The Standards are a shopping list of the skills that are required for modern journalists, based on best practice in each of the industries.
Skillset's Chief Executive Dinah Caine said: "These Standards will provide invaluable guidance about the skills and qualifications necessary to make sure that broadcasters retain the trust of their audiences in the current media environment. We know they will be of huge value as they have been developed in close consultation with the people who will be using them."
Skillset has also developed a Job Map to accompany the new Standards, helping professionals easily pinpoint the skills they need at different stages of their careers. The new National Occupational Standards for Law and Compliance in Broadcasting can now be accessed via Skillset's website: www.skillset.org
