High-Tech Approaches To Boost Viewers

There's high-tech news on the airwaves today as Sky is ready to launch a separate electronic programme guide (EPG) numbering system for high definition homes, as a way to boost HD channel usage.
At the same time a video on-demand service offered by ITV and Channel 4 will also launch on Sony's PlayStation 3 console this week, joining the already-available BBC iPlayer.
Sky's new approach will introduce a 'HD Swap Bouquet' alongside its 'Standard Bouquet' of channels.
The system, due to go live on February 1st, will mean that HD channels can swap positions with their SD counterparts to move further up the EPG.
Meanwhile, the new video on-demand services offered by ITV and Channel 4 will be available on Sony's PlayStation 3 console this week, joining the already-available BBC iPlayer and will soon become available on the PS3's navigational menu, offering users the chance to catch up on popular programming.
It is part of ITV's new strategy to bring ITV Player to platforms beyond ITV.com, including games consoles, connected TVs and mobile devices.
