Superkrush Fims Celebrates North East's Cultural Diversity

Superkrush Films is producing a vibrant film to showcase Newcastle City Library's Heritage Lottery Funded, Taking Liberties project.
The project will build on a major British Library exhibition, Taking Liberties. This exhibition explored the struggle for freedom and human rights throughout 900 years of British history using key documents, talks and debates.
Taking Liberties has been built on the themes of struggle, protest, values, rights and what it means to be British. The purpose of the project is to particularly raise awareness of these themes amongst refugees, asylum seekers and migrants and explore their journeys to the North East of England.
The project will portray the national significance and legacy affects of asylum seekers who live and work within the UK.
Superkrush Films is developing a dazzling film to highlight the region's cultural diversity by representing the values of a wide range of cultures that are shared in shaping the North East's cultural identity. The footage will be used to explore the impact of the character, identify and the demographic change of the North East of England.
Newcastle Library Service Heritage Manager, Kath Cassidy, commented: "Superkrush Films will encapsulate the aims of the Taking Liberties' project by making films which showcase and promote cultural diversity in an innovative and creative way. We hope that the films will encourage people from different cultures to become involved in a range of other heritage initiatives."
Superkrush Films Director Chris Taylor commented: "The Library film is a colourful metaphor for how cultural diversity enriches our society. The concept highlights the importance of how the sharing of culture helps to break down barriers and unite people."
The Taking Liberties project's main outcome will be a major exhibition that will include a range of items loaned by the British Library, Parliamentary Archives and Tyne and Wear Archive and Museum Service.
The exhibition will launch Superkrush Film's selection of stunning films at the end of the month.
The exhibition will be open to the public on November 24 on the sixth floor of Newcastle City Library. The exhibition will run for three months till January 30 2011.
