Guangzhou Asian Games Broadcasting Co., the 2010 Asian Games host broadcaster will use EVS systems for its live operations, including multi-camera recording, live replays and highlight editing at various venues of the event.
Production teams, including 22 Chinese TV stations, will use a total of 130 EVS SD/HD servers and their live production controllers to cover the Games, which will be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to 27 2010.
Over 50 venues will be equipped with the most advanced broadcast technology infrastructures during the two weeks of multi-sport competition in Guangzhou. For the 2010 edition, a total of 476 events in 46 different sports disciplines will be contested by over 10,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries.
The host broadcaster, Guangzhou Games Broadcasting (GAB) appointed a number of broadcast specialists, among them 22 Chinese broadcasters, to provide teams and equipment to manage the production of the international TV and radio feed at the different venues. Operations include live replays and live editing with EVS systems.
CCTV's OB Vans and their broadcast specialist teams will provide support for the broadcasting of the Opening & Closing Ceremonies and for competitions in over ten sports - Athletics, Tennis, Archery, Gymnastics and Basketball - and from seven multi-sport venues. To do so, CCTV will supply and operate a total of 23 EVS XT2 servers.
Guangdong TVs will be providing technical support and facilities for the broadcasting of the Football and Rugby competitions, Shanghai TVs, the Athletics, Swimming and Tennis competitions, Guangzhou TV, together with CCTV will provide technical support for the broadcasting of the Opening Ceremony.
In total, the host broadcast, together with the other local broadcast service providers, will deploy 46 Outside Broadcast Vans, of which 28 HD vans. Some 130 XT servers from EVS will be at the heart of the production of over 2,500 hours of HD TV content. XT2 servers controlled by the LSM remote for live replays and on-the-fly editing and IPDirector for production networking and media management, including rough cut editing and file transfer. All the OB vans have been provided to the host broadcast by existing EVS customers.
Luc Doneux, Head of Big Events at EVS, said: "Chinese broadcasters have acquired strong technical skills and significant know-how in live production, gained namely from their experience during the 2008 Olympics games. This allows them to provide top-quality live coverage for key sporting events, such as the Asian Games in Guangzhou. The host broadcaster and the Chinese broadcast organisations preference for EVS live production technology for the production of the Games underscores their plan to offer viewers the best live experience possible."
