Rushes Turn Back Time For The BBC
Rushes completed VFX work and grading on the Back To The Future style promotion for BBC's Turn Back Time: The High Street series conceived by RKCR.
Hosted by Master Chef's Gregg Wallace, a group of shop-keeping families are transported back to the birth of the high street in the 1870s and propelled through a century of change, right up to the modern era and the 1970s.
The promotional trailer opens on a Victorian street scene, with proper going about their daily business. Suddenly, a BBC One minibus, mocked up to look like a time machine, appears from nowhere (bursting through a time bubble) and screeches to a halt along the centre of the high street leaving flaming tyre tracks in its wake.
A shocked group of Victorians gather round the bus. The door open and Gregg Wallace steps out wearing goggles and a lab coat. He ushers a butcher off the bus, dressed for the Victorian era. Hopping back on the bus, he sets off to the next century to deliver his next unwitting subjects. With the production brilliantly shot on the Alexa HD, this aided the tight turn around at Rushes with Adam Watson leading the team delivering all aspects of the VFX and colourist Simone Grattarola maximising the productions potential with the grading.
Adam Watson commented: "It was a really fun project for the whole team. From Time Portals to extreme atmospheric effects, we explored the whole gamut of what is possible. We used a combination of filmed fire and smoke elements, 3D leaf particle and old school digital matte painting to create our Victorian village. The project brief also meant we could experiment to find the right effect for the time machine's travel and thruster fire. Personally, it was great working with Director's WHO? for the first time. They share my passion for creative collaboration and freedom to explore ideas as a path to the best result."
