IPV's Teragator Data Aggregation Tool Gets 'Business Savvy'
A supplier of media, metadata and low bitrate, frame-accurate video technology to the broadcast and professional video sectors, IPV, is showcasing the latest tools for its Teragator and Curator systems that accelerate the workflow for live event production, including news and sports, at IBC 2010.
New capabilities making a debut at IBC include business analytic tools for its Teragator data aggregation engine as well as improvements to its Curator system.
IPV introduced Teragator, its relational metadata aggregation and management application as a technology at IBC 2009. Built on Semantic Web Technologies, Teragator is a powerful tool that provides a platform to aggregate disparate metadata sources and data mining services to identify and manage complex relational links between assets and related data.
Teragator is the perfect platform for providing effective business analytics. A key challenge for any business is how to make the most of its resources and use the available data to inform operations and evaluate existing or new propositions.
Existing systems have a unique view of data to inform on specific business processes and success criteria. Teragator allows these disparate data sources to be analysed in a single, uniform application and modelled with different views to explore and discover statistical patterns and business metrics.
Currently, data from regular sources, such as Nielson ratings and playout schedules are readily available, but often difficult and time consuming to analyse together. This becomes a simple task with Teragator. More recently, perceptive customers are exploring dynamic data from sources such as Twitter to provide instant feedback on the success of its campaigns. Teragator simply aggregates live feeds into the mix and allows users to quickly see the effects of breaking stories.
Nigel Booth, Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing at IPV, said: "Typically, the analysis of business data is either processed manually or with significant development of bespoke applications, proving to be expensive and time consuming. Teragator can read data sources without any disruption to the primary systems, allowing informed business decisions to be taken without the need to make structural changes to the existing systems."
IPV has also further increased the productivity of the Curator workflow by incorporating tools that improve the speed of ingest, logging and retrieval, while at the same time providing an integrated editing solution for live applications controlled directly from the desktop.
In combination with IPV's renowned low bitrate video technology, users can quickly and simply browse through the content of single or multiple libraries to identify related or more appropriate content. This drives improvements in workflows and cost-efficiencies in finding, retrieving and managing assets thereby maximising earnings from a media asset portfolio.
An affordable, tapeless workflow environment running on both PC and AppleMac platforms, the Curator system is designed to allow communities of media professional to efficiently fulfil tasks such as desktop editing, media annotation, review and approval and general media browsing as well as easy management of the high resolution source media. Whatever the source of the material, Curator is guaranteed to be frame accurate at all times giving an unprecedented desktop experience. Curator comes into its own in a live event environment by providing the facility to immediately browse, annotate, log and rough cut edit directly on the desktop in a standard network environment.
Earlier this year, IPV added the ability to directly integrate Curator with the Adobe Premier Pro Editor, for live proxy editing in a networked environment. This process allows journalists to quickly assemble material for news or highlights packages and conform the output via the IPV Process Engine and the Adobe AME for publishing directly to air. The Curator system can also be fully integrated with the leading newsroom systems providing an end-to-end workflow.
