Media Symposium Keeps It Real
The Narrative Research Group based in the Media School at Bournemouth University is hosting a one day symposium examining how real people are represented in different areas of the media.
The event takes place on Friday 3rd September in the Executive Business Centre.
Academics from across the UK and Europe will discuss a range of people in the public eye, including key political figures Barack Obama and David Cameron, along with well known public faces, Lenny Henry and Moira Stewart.
Dr Ruth Page from the University of Leicester will discuss how celebrities are represented on Twitter and Dr Ben Highmore from the University of Sussex will give a fascinating insight into a popular TV programme in his talk 'Come Dine with Me: Narrative, Time and Everyday Life.'
Other key speakers include recent Perkins Prize winner Professor Hilary Dannenberg and acclaimed writer and theorist Professor Sue Thomas.
The day will close with a performance of John Foster's, Little Boy. This captivating monologue tells the story of the pilot who dropped the Hiroshima bomb. John is BU's Screenwriter in Residence, with credits including Z-Cars, Emmerdale, The Bill and many more. The event is free to attend but spaces are limited.
To register, contact Bronwen Thomas by email:
