BBC To Launch iPlayer Mobile Apps

The BBC have been given the go ahead from the BBC Trust to launch a range of mobile applications for iPlayer News and Sport.
The BBC planned to launch News and Sports mobile apps in February, ahead of the World Cup/ However, plans were halted following an outcry from competitors.
Following a recent independent study, the Trust ruled that no Public Value Test was required for the broadcaster to launch mobile apps across a range of platforms including Android, iPhone and Symbian. They took into account the potential impact on the market for the apps along with the costs involved. A follow-up review is planned to take place in six months time.
BBC Trustee, Diane Coyle said: "The Trust has a duty to represent the interests of licence fee payers, who will increasingly expect to access BBC content in this way, but also to listen to concerns raised by industry."
