BBC Strategy Gets Unions' Attention

The BBC's Strategy Review was on the agenda this week as senior representatives from the Federation of Entertainment Unions met with the BBC's Director General (DG), Mark Thompson.
The DG emphasised that views from the public and campaigners on the now controversial review would only be considered if formally submitted as part of the BBC Trust's consultative process - a consultation that closes on 25 May.
The Review, which proposes to cut radio services and scale back the Corporation's online operation, has sparked a mountain of sustained criticism not least from devotees of BBC 6 Music and the Asian Network.
Representatives from broadcast union, BECTU and the NUJ have previously met with senior management to discuss what the unions see as the BBC's ill-conceived strategy of self-harm ahead of the general election.
The entertainment unions are preparing their submissions to the consultation; once submitted, BECTU's full statement will be published online.
The Federation of Entertainment Unions brings together, BECTU, Equity, the Musicians Union, the NUJ, Unite, the Professional Footballers Association and the Writers Guild on issues of common interest.
