RTW Aids Broadcaster At Winter Games
A leading manufacturer and distributor of professional audio metering and control devices has announced that Sonotechnique has supplied eight SurroundMonitor 10809X-PLUS and one SurroundControl 31900 system to a major Canadian broadcaster.
The equipment is being used to broadcast the 2010 Winter Games in Canada.
The RTW equipment was first built and tested in Toronto, then dismantled and shipped last month to the television station in Vancouver.
The eight SurroundMonitor 10809X-PLUS systems were installed in the facility’s eight post-production suites and are scheduled for use on post-production work. The 31900 was installed in the facility’s quality control, which is serving as the final stop for audio mixing before the athletic coverage is broadcast out to viewers. Sonotechnique’s technical team in Vancouver are providing technical support to the station.
"Our customers appreciate the quality and effectiveness of RTW’s metering equipment," said Gerry Eschweiler, President of Sonotechnique. "RTW has a long-standing reputation as an innovative, forward-thinking leader in the audio industry and has the products to back it up. It’s that reputation that compels our clients to choose RTW products time and time again."
Used solely for digital audio production, the SurroundMonitor 10809X-PLUS is especially designed for multi-channel and surround sound, supporting 2/0, 3/0, 3/1, 3/2 (5.1) formats. The monitor’s eight-channel multi-standard peak meter and surround sound analyser will allow users in each of the broadcaster’s eight production suites to keep up with the total sound volume and balance levels by way of graphic indicators right on the screen.
Meanwhile, operators in quality control will work with the SurroundControl 31900’s eight-channel system, which is used for displaying, monitoring and controlling both analog and digital surround, multi-channel and stereo signals in production, post-production and broadcast applications. In addition to the system’s peak programme meters, an integrated loudness meter that complies with ITU BS.1771 is also included.
"We are proud that our products are being used at an event that attracts such worldwide attention," says Andreas Tweitmann, Managing Director, RTW. "As a long-time leader in the audio loudness industry, it has been our goal for more than 40 years to provide customers with the solutions they need for all applications requiring reliable and precise displays for analog and digital audio signals. The sale of this equipment is a testament to our commitment to that goal."
The equipment will remain at the broadcasting facility and will also be used for future broadcast events.
