BBC drama scoops top film prize

BBC ONE drama 'Out Of Control' has won the top film prize at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The single drama made by BBC Films collected the prestigious Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film at the festival.
This is the first time a BBC ONE drama has won the award.
Written and directed by Dominic Savage 'Out Of Control' is his third film about the lives of young people in Britain today. BBC ONE’s first wholly improvised drama, starring four newcomers opposite David Morrissey and Tamzin Outhwaite, the story follows the lives of four teenagers sent to a young offenders institution and how the experience affects them.
Director Dominic Savage said: "It is the ultimate challenge to make a difficult piece for a mainstream channel.
"But making films is all about reaching an audience, and in making this for BBC ONE it will reach a far larger audience than if released at the cinema.
"This award recognises the risk that BBC ONE has taken in commissioning such a tough piece. There were no restrictions or impositions which is what made this so exciting."
The drama, commissioned by Lorraine Heggessey, Controller of BBC ONE, and Jane Tranter, Controller of Drama Commissioning, is to be shown as part of BBC ONE's Cracking Crime Day which aims to dispel the myths and give a true picture of crime across the UK.
Jane Tranter said: "This is a fantastic accolade for a BBC ONE single drama. It is a really brave film with outstanding performances from some talented newcomers."
