Red Bee Media Wins Five VoD Business

A leading media management company in technology and creative solutions has been appointed by Channel 5 Broadcasting to manage all its video on demand (VoD) services. Red Bee Media will be dealing with the content distribution to Five’s VoD service, Demand Five, and the syndication, live streaming, content management and delivery of the broadcaster’s original full-length programmes to YouTube in the UK.
The contract win sees Red Bee media manage all video content and metadata for the group, receiving and distributing content via its Media Gateway file acceleration platform. As part of its unique integrated offering, Red Bee will transcode to multiple platform formats, enhancing the content by adding idents and on screen graphics, and manipulating the associated metadata to allow a more streamlined and fully tape-less workflow, adding value to deliver even more compelling experiences for viewers.
Five joins a number of other broadcasters at the forefront of the video on demand market who have partnered with Red Bee Media, including Channel 4 (4oD) and BBC (iPlayer). Five selected the company to manage its media workflow based on strategic analysis and the media company’s operational excellence and future vision of the on demand world.
Paul Thornton-Jones, Controller VoD & Technology at Five Digital Media Group commented: "This deal signals a new era in Five’s digital media strategy. The VoD world is rapidly changing and as a result the technology and workflows required are increasingly sophisticated. Red Bee Media’s advanced integrated media solutions and multiplatform know-how provides us with the expertise to help continue to grow our digital offering and in turn our audience base."
Alan Wright, Chief Commercial Officer of Red Bee Media, added: "As a company which continually pushes the boundaries of broadcast and broadband, we are delighted to be Five’s chosen partner to take their digital offering to the next level. Five’s decision demonstrates confidence in both our operational capabilities and our vision of the future of on demand."
