Mexican Audiovisual Heritage Preserved

A global provider of flexible 'turnkey' solutions for quality-controlled digitising, management and archiving has announced how state-of-the-art technology can be used to secure and preserve sound and audiovisual collections.
During a five-day conference at the Fonoteca Nacional in Mexico City, conference co-sponsor NOA Audio Solutions revealed that it is the developer of two key technologies underpinning Fonoteca's archive: IngestLine, for digitisation of audio, and the mediARC digital archive management system.
The conference, 'Safeguarding our Sound and Audiovisual Heritage: A World Challenge', brought together participants from Cuba, Argentina, Chile and Brazil to get an up-close view of the Fonoteca, a successfully managed audiovisual collection.
Conferees also attended seminars on preserving audiovisual records by experts, including Dr. Dietrich Schüller of Phonogrammarchiv (Austria), Jouni Frilander of YLE (Finland), Stefano Cavaglieri of Fonoteca Nazionale (Switzerland) and Jean-Christophe Kummer of NOA Audio Solutions.
The Fonoteca Nacional opened in December 2008 with the mission of preserving the portion of Mexico's cultural heritage that is based in audio recordings. It is the first institution of its kind in Latin America.
To migrate the audio recordings from analog to digital storage, the Fonoteca has relied on quality-controlled transfer using NOA's IngestLine.
Once the content is in digital form, the institute uses a NOA mediARC workflow solution to catalog each file according to detailed metadata and subsequently to enable storage, browse, identification, retrieval, distribution, and repurposing as needed.
