Spanish TV 'Goes Cultural' In Belfast
A multicultural event, which mixes Mediterranean, Latin and Irish traditions each Friday night in Northern Ireland was filmed last week by a Spanish television station, writes Carla Liébana.
The TV show 'Spanish Around the World' recorded the Oiche-Mediterranean event, which was held in the Culturlann in west Belfast (on the Falls Road).
The meeting offered music, flamenco dancing performances, traditional Spanish cuisine and typical drinks - such as sangria.
All these elements assured an unforgettable evening which attracted people from Spanish and South American communities living in Belfast but as well as people from the local community.
The Oiche-Mediterranean organizer, Fran Pitarch, said: "It was a great night with live music, authentic food and discussions and cultural exchange around the table."
In recent years, Belfast has been receiving a lot of people from other parts of the world.
As a consequence, the city has been able to enrich with all these different cultures, which must be known by Northern Ireland people, as well as Irish culture must be known by new arrivals.
Pitarch stated: "As Belfast becomes an increasingly multi-cultural city, and west Belfast opens its arms to people from a diverse range of backgrounds".
In this way, Fran said the Oiche-Mediterranean was "a great opportunity for the local Irish and Spanish media to learn more about the Latin and Mediterranean community and their culture, and the experience of these communities in Belfast".
More than two million Spanish People are living in different points of the planet.
The programme 'Spanish Around the World' tries to show their personal opinion about foreign countries, contrasting Spanish culture with other traditions.
