Audio Network Announces Composer Of The Month For October 2009
Audio Network has focused on spooky music for Halloween and its October monthly promotion.
The company has also profiled the young composer Luke Richards, who has a penchant for the scary. Based in Los Angeles, but British-born, Luke, at 21 years of age, has already won the prestigious Siebelius National Young Film Composer competition. He is a scarily brilliant composer who combines classical orchestral training with technical wizardry to create stunningly evocative music.
Richards said: "I am fortunate to have a consistent 'day job' with Audio Network, where I can write and record for them whilst building a film career. Most young composers in LA have to live on air and some talented people give up pretty quickly."
Luke is one of over 200 composers who write for Audio Network. Their music is generally acknowledged by the industry to be amongst the best quality available. The composers include Sir John Dankworth, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Nik Kershaw and Debbie Wiseman MBE as well as hip-hop, rock, world and indie artists. The recordings feature world class soloists like John Etheridge, Bill Bruford and Tim Garland and leading ensembles including regular sessions with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Audio Network Creative Director Andrew Sunnucks said: "It was clear right away that Luke was a very special find indeed - he has the rare gift of understanding how to make orchestras sound contemporary but lyrical - all the best film composers can do that."
The collaborative aspects of writing music for Audio Network enables Richards to meet other composers at recording sessions, exchange ideas and tips. Acknowledging that composing can be a solitary endeavour, he believes lots of composers make the mistake of allowing themselves to become isolated. Luke surround himself with eclectically creative people and sponges up influences, inspiration and ideas. He has a knack of then turning these ideas into a sound and approach which is entirely and uniquely his own. Listen to his music at: www.audionetwork.com.
