Darlow Smithson Talks To Plane Crash Survivors For TLC

Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP), an IMG Media company, has been commissioned by US cable network TLC to produce Plane Crash Survivors, a one-off documentary investigating the emotional trauma and life changing impact of those who walked away from some of the world's worst aviation disasters.
Using dramatic archive footage of the actual crashes, in depth interviews with the survivors and personal photographs and footage of their lives today, the documentary portrays gripping stories of survival and heart-warming personal journeys.
Talking candidly, and often for the first time, the survivors explain how their lives were turned upside down by the events. Contributors include Mercedes Ramirez Johnson who was one in only four who survived when a plane slammed into the side of a Columbian mountain and Franklin Huddle who was on Flight 961 from India to Kenya when it was hijacked and crash landed in the ocean.
Pilots Al Haynes and Denny Fitch of United Airlines DC10, who were forced to make an emergency landing when their plane's entire hydraulics system failed in 1989, managed to save 185 people when they glided into a crash landing. But dealing with the guilt of not saving everyone has haunted them ever since.

The terrifying trauma of the crash; the feelings of guilt as to why they survived when others died; the years of recovery - are experiences that only they can truly understand. But a plane crash can also trigger a life-changing transformation in survivors' lives and their stories can inspire us all."
