Low Budget 'Peacefire' To Screen In 2008
Mayfly Entertainment’s low-budget feature ‘Peacefire’ has wrapped a five week shoot filming on location in Northern Ireland. The £200,000 (STG) feature is adapted from the award-winning play by Irish writer 'Macdara Vallely'.
The film, also directed by Vallely, shot from the 17 September – 21 October on location in Lurgan, Co. Armagh.
‘Peacefire’ is funded by Northern Ireland Screen and stars a cast of up and coming actors from Northern Ireland including John Travers (Closing the Ring, Song For a Raggy Boy) and Gerard Jordan.
Based on true events, the story takes place against the backdrop of the Northern Ireland peace process. The black comedy is an account of one teenager's personal experience of crime and punishment on his local housing estate and his struggle to survive with his life - if not his legs - intact.
"The film was shot on P2 Storage System," said the film’s producer Chris Martin. "It’s a High Def system where no film is used – cards are used instead and loaded into the back of the camera. It saves a lot of the time you’d spend on logging and capturing. I believe ‘Peacefire’ is one of the first feature films in Northern Ireland to shoot on this format."
Equipment was supplied by Manic Films, who provided a Redrock M2 35mm lens adapter and a Panasonic HVX200 for the shoot.
The film was produced by Sarah Perry and Chris Martin, with Spanish DOP Nuria Roldos in charge of cinematography. Posting will be completed in New York and Belfast, with Top Drawer taking on sound design.
‘Peacefire’ is expected to be delivered in March 2008.
