About Flying Cameras Ltd
After a 7 year period of as a Clapper/Loader, Focus Puller and Aerial Camera Assistant, Simon got his first break as an Aerial Cameraman in 1987 working on the Holmes Associates TV Drama series “Piece of Cake” a story about a spitfire squadron in the Battle of Britain. From this he went on to be one of the Aerial Camera Operators on "Memphis Belle'
In 1991 he was tasked by Werner Herzog to make a documentary about the Kuwaiti Oil fires still burning since the end of the first Gulf War. The film was shown as part of the BBC fine cut series and titled “Lessons of Darkness.” The camerawork received critical acclaim both at home and abroad and is still held up today as being some of the most iconic filmmaking of the First Gulf War.
Simon was commissioned by Martin Lambie-Nairn in 1997 to Co-Direct and shoot the BBC 1 Balloon Idents. They ran for five years continuously and won the prestigious RTS award for best Idents.
He has worked consistently for the last thirty years on Features, Documentaries, Drama and Commercials.
For the last seven years he has worked on Blue chip Projects for both the BBC, Discovery, Disney and National Geographic.ilms include: Natures’ Great Events
Up to date he has won five Emmy awards and One BAFTA for his work as a Cinematographer.
Led by Simon the company is able to offer aerial filming solutions for high end shooting in any format worldwide.
