TSL To Introduce Milestone Professional Audio Monitor At IBC 2009

TSL Professional Products Group has announced that it will launch the new PAM2-3G16 professional audio monitor on Stand 10.B41 at IBC 2009.
Aimed at a truly international market, the PAM2-3G16 represents a milestone in rackmount audio monitoring technology. The PAM2-3G16 is a multi-standard, multi-format monitor that simplifies multichannel audio monitoring via preset menus and shortcut keys for rapid and intuitive access to critical elements of complex broadcast audio systems.
Jointly conceived and designed by TSL and its partner, Celtic Audio, the PAM2-3G16's menu structure and operational modes were further developed in consultation with international audio engineers from broadcast providers such as Sky TV, BBC Sport, ESPN, Red Bee Media and systems specialists worldwide.
TSL Professional Products Group General Manager Chris Exelby said: "Broadcast system operators worldwide are crying out for the sonic quality and unmatched multi-channel monitoring capabilities offered by the PAM2-3G16. The flexibility offered in terms of user selectable scales, ballistics, range of standard input/output signals supported and the ability to intelligently dissect and monitor any multichannel audio signal structure from mixed mono, stereo and 5.1 make PAM2-3G16 the most advanced and intuitive product in its sector."
A feature unique to TSL's Precision Audio Monitoring range and introduced with the PAM2-3G16 is a 'scroll to hear' function. The monitoring menu used to select the audio heard from the unit's speaker system superimposes a yellow box around the bargraph representing the audio being heard.
The scroll feature enables the operator to move the 'hear' box across the bargraph display by manually rotating the encoder. This feature is particularly useful in multi-language and surround-sound applications when a user needs to quickly or repeatedly check the integrity of an individual audio component.
The new PAM2-3G16 also features tools for measuring programme loudness and Dolby metadata. ITU-R BS.1770 loudness levels are represented as a moving horizontal line superimposed across the bargraph display with an alphanumeric value shown on screen. The time constant may be varied by the user and the value viewed adjacent to a Dolby dialogue normalisation (dialnorm) metadata parameter when appropriate. Dolby metadata displays can be tailored to show a wide range of values extracted by the optional Dolby CAT552 E/AC-3 decoder card.
OLED technology offers additional benefits in terms of extremely high reliability, exceptional image viewing angle and low power consumption. Moreover, because the PAM2-3G16 is a fan-free device, it requires minimal power and produces no ambient noise.
