Director's Masterclass Boosts Freelance Event

Brian Tufano, one of the UK's most acclaimed directors of photography, is to give a masterclass at BECTU's Freelancers' Fair this week.
Organised by BECTU and hosted by BAFTA, the Freelancers' Fair runs from 09.30 - 17.00 on Friday 26 June and is free to BECTU members. Non-members pay £10.
With credits as powerful and varied as Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, Kidulthood, Billy Elliot, and Quadrophenia, Brian Tufano's revelations about the skill that is cinematography are certain to be inspirational.
Brian will join the chair of BECTU's Writers, Producers and Directors branch and producer/director, Mike Dick, in a 90 minute conversation about the qualities needed to interpret the director's vision. The seminar is entitled Directing the Camera.
This year's Freelancers' Fair programme has a lot of offer to all freelancers whatever their experience or particular interests.
The organisers said that new entrants should feel more confident about their situation following Getting Started (10.00 - 11.30) a seminar which will look at the critical issues of work experience and sources of help, with input from BECTU President, Tony Lennon, producer/director, Benetta Adamson, Anna Stacey, joint head of the National Minimum Wage Unit, Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and Joe Mahoney, managing director, Production Base.
In between seminars, key training organisations and providers of services to freelancers in media and entertainment - including national training body, Skillset, accountants Hard Dowdy, Thompsons Solicitors, and Production Base - will be available in the Fair Exhibition for advice and information.
