GS1 UK Collaborates With IWANTACD.com
IWANTACD.com, a streamlined CD audio mastering, design and manufacturing service targeting the 'Long Tail' producers in the music and creative industry sector, has collaborated with GS1 UK to enable its customers to join GS1 UK's single bar code licence scheme.
Many music producers have previously released material without a bar code or approached a company who, despite seeming legitimate, were in effect selling on a bar code illegally.
The licence for a single bar code number, also known as a Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN) is now available to all IWANTACD.com customers from GS1 UK for an annual subscription of £25.
The GS1 bar code uniquely identifies music products and is often used within the industry to accurately track music sales.
Bar codes are ideal for physical product (to be sold in shops or online) and, of course, utilised by most online retailers for downloads.
Alaster Purchase, Operations Director of GS1 UK, explained: "The introduction of GS1 licensed single bar codes reaches out to companies and individuals who previously could not justify a full membership of GS1, but need legitimate bar code numbers to ensure utmost accuracy when producing and selling music."
Previously, the single bar code licence scheme had only been available to members of AIM (Association of Independent Music) and the UK record labels body, BPI. The scheme is now available to IWANTACD.com.
Working with GS1 UK, IWANTACD.com offers a fast track bar code system helping to deliver:
