Omneon Digital Platform Supports Consolidated Operation Of PMBS

Omneon has announced that Prof-Media Business Solutions (PMBS), a major Russian-based diversified media holding group, has consolidated playout for four television broadcasters - TV3, 2x2, MTV Russia and VHI Russia - into a single, fully automated facility that relies on an Omneon digital platform.
PMBS' new Moscow facility is one of the first in Russia to implement a file-based, fully tapeless workflow.
TV3 and 2x2 began broadcasting last December while MTV and VH1 are scheduled to start broadcasting from the new complex in May.
With support from systems integrator Qualitron, PMBS has deployed an Omneon MediaGrid active storage system to provide high-performance, shared nearline storage and an Omneon Spectrum media server for ingest of eight and playout of 11 SD channels across multiple time zones.
The ability of the Omneon MediaGrid system at PMBS to offer simultaneous access to stored content enables the company to streamline its overall workflow, resulting in improved efficiency and broadcast reliability.
The 84-TB MediaGrid system provides an estimated three months of robust, resilient and secure storage for both high- and low-resolution media clips in a single location and enables fast transfer of MXF-wrapped DV25 files between storage and ancillary systems.
At PMBS, the Omneon MediaGrid and Spectrum systems are seamlessly integrated with TeleStream FlipFactory for transcoding, Tektronix Cerify for QC, and Snell & Wilcox RollMap for facility control and monitoring. The Omneon MediaGrid also affords edit-in-place functionality for Apple Finale Cut Pro and Avid workstations. Playout is controlled by SGT automation while event lists for promos and commercials can be triggered directly by the staff of the programming department of each channel.
