West Park To Produce Theatreland For Sky Arts
DCD-owned West Park Pictures has been commissioned by Sky Arts to produce Theatreland a new observational series going behind the scenes at one of the world's leading stage venues, the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.
The 8x30-minute observational documentary series begins with the arrival of the theatre's new artistic director, Sean Mathias, and follows him during his first three months as he brings the highly anticipated new production on Waiting for Godot to the West end stage - starring Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Simon Callow and Ronald Pickup.
West Park Pictures Series Producer Ben Weston has gained exclusive access to the theatre, from the front of house team dealing with the public, to the crew and creative team backstage all working to get the new production up and running for opening night. Waiting for Godot opens on May 6.
Theatreland was commissioned by Sky Arts' Channel Director John Cassy and will be directed by Emmy Award-winning observational documentary director Chris Terrill of Uppercut Films, whose credits include Commando on the Frontline (itv), Soho Stories (BBC Two) and The Cruise (BBC One). It will be series produced by Ben Weston, a Bafta winner whose credits include How Britain Got the Gardening Bug (BBC Four) and War Oratorio (Channel 4).
It is anticipated that the series will also follow the second high profile production in Sean Mathias' Theatre Royal Haymarket season.
Fiona Morris, Executive Producer, West Park Pictures, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Theatre Royal during such an exciting time and have gained the full cooperation and support of the theatre staff to bring the Sky Arts audience a unique and privileged view backstage where they will witness the incredible talent and creative team spirit that ensures London's West End remains one of the world's most successful creative landscapes.
John Cassy said: "Sky Arts is delighted to be able to give our customers exclusive behind the scenes access to one of the West End's most exciting and character filled theatres."
