Junger Audio Introduces ESDI Cards At NAB 2009

Dynamics processing specialist Junger Audio has been showing its range of new ESDI card at this year's NAB Convention in Las Vegas.
Designed specifically for Satellite Digital Re Broadcasters, the ESDI card provides the ideal solution for controlling loudness for all incoming signals. Each SDI stream runs independently - the signals don't need to be locked to a house reference.
The ESDI card combines one SDI interface with one DSP unit that automatically handles individual audio loudness processing. It is designed for digital satellite TV, where SDI based incoming signals don't match a uniform synchronisation and have widely varying levels. The basic version comes with an SD-SDI interface and offers 4-channels of LEVEL MAGIC processing. Upgrade to HD-SDI and to 8-channel Level Magic Surround are available by software license key.
Each ESDI card C8486 receives one TV channel through its SDI interface and then instantly processes that channel before re-transmitting it to the encoder. With ESDI in place, there is no need for synchronisation and no change in the spectral range - just well controlled dynamics regardless of the type or quality of the input.
Junger Audio's C8000 frames allow users to stack up to 16 different cards, thus providing 16 SDI channels. Thanks to the system's embedded LEVEL MAGIC algorithm, users don't need to worry about synchronising incoming sources before re-transmission or concern themselves with level issues because the system automatically handles the loudness control of all digital audio signals.
The dynamic range processor principles principles developed by Junger Audio are based on a Multi-Loop dynamic range control principle in combination with adaptive controlled processing algorithms.
The LEVEL MAGIC Processor responsible for this Automatic Non Destructive Normalisation process works with a Multi-Loop simultaneous combination of slow changes (AGC), fast changes (Transient Processing) and Look Ahead peak limiter management.
The unit is easy to operate as users only have to input a small number of settings when they begin using the system. Once these are in place, the system achieves optimum results by reviewing all other parameters necessary for inaudible processing and automatically controlling them in response to changes in the programme signal.
Features include:
  • Combi SDI/DSP - one card = one TV channel
  • All parameters need only be set once via an easy to use web interface
  • Includes LEVEL MAGIC adaptive controlled audio loudness processing (simultaneous AGC + Transient Processor for fast changes + Limiter)
  • Fits into Junger Audio's C8000 Frames (up to 16 cards/16 TV channels per frame)
