SGO Enhances Mistika
A leading European developer of high-end solutions for the post production and broadcast industries, S.G.O. has announced a radically advanced new enhanced features for Mistika version 4.0. Mistika is already a very fast, truly open and powerful high-end timeline-based editing solution for conforming, compositing, image restoration, multi-mastering and colour grading.
Mistika is known for seamlessly combining infinite layer compositing with feature film quality colour grading using a client-friendly timeline structure. Other manufacturers segment these abilities into separate products but SGO has always combined all of those capabilities and functions together in one system, thereby enabling users to offer their clients a complete one-stop solution.
This technology has allowed SGO to provide a new set of tools using Motion Estimation technology that works in real time, subject to hardware and resolution. For feature film workflows, most effects process using 16 bits of information. Mistika also has correction handles for many different colour spaces such as “709” for HD and Look Up Tables for film work.
Mistika 4.00 now offers Stereoscopic options, allowing two streams (one for the left and right) to be controlled independently and as a locked pair. The 3dComp effect can be used to composite in 3D space with the correct offsets being applied to the left and right channels.
The new stereoscopic tools cleverly make use of the dual output ability of the video card, otherwise used for dual link HD. This allows left and right HD SDI preview outputs of stereoscopic composites and colour grades, without significantly upgrading the hardware over a standard system. Final outputs can be delivered either via the dual output, or by rendering to any file format (such as DPX) at the required resolution. Within Mistika, two clips are grouped together to create a left and a right pair. These can be operated on individually or as a stereoscopic pair. This allows for imperfections in one channel to be treated without affecting the other. The stereoscopic group can then have most features of Mistika applied to it, thus treating both sides identically. The 3DComp effect within Mistika allows composites to be created in true 3D space, with the left and right elements being offset correctly.
