MHz Systems Integration And Design Expertise Proves A Hit At SIS Live

Megahertz (MHz), the UK-based independent systems integrator, has received unprecedented acclaim from SIS LIVE and its broadcast clients for its revolutionary high-definition outside broadcast production trailer, OB 3.
SIS LIVE, the Outside Broadcast division of broadcast facilities provider Satellite Information Services (SIS) commissioned OB 3, its new multi-million pound trailer, in November 2007.
Completed at the end of August 2008, OB 3 has since been central to a number of successful live productions including the BBC's live coverage of 2008's Proms in the Park.
The latest in a line of vehicles designed and built by MHz for SIS, OB 3 shows MHz's customary attention to technical detail with its choice of best-in-class solutions to fit out this vehicle.
From the outset, OB 3 was different - it combined engineering and design teams from MHz alongside structural design innovation from both the yacht and motor sports industry. In fact, the vehicle design differs from other production trailers in several ways. Firstly, the chassis, designed by MHz longstanding coach building partner, JS Fraser, incorporates an additional expanding pod in the production area. This enlarges the production area to triple its size and accommodate a third row of seating in the gallery.
Its unique expandable porch and part-glazed reception area at the rear of the vehicle takes its inspiration from the hospitality vehicles JS Fraser has designed for use at Formula One racing events.
Furthermore unique soundproofed windows are incorporated into the sides of the vehicle, allowing natural light into the production gallery without compromising the integrity of the production. Inside the trailer, new materials have been used including washable fabric wall panels and hard-wearing Corian topped custom-built consoles and tables - the latter were designed and built by the in-house cabinet makers at MHz. Energy-efficient LED lighting is also available throughout as well as illuminated desk undersides for easy maintenance.
The design ensures the trailer offers a combination of flexibility and reliability required for any mission-critical live application with a comfortable, spacious and stylish environment that is a pre-requisite for clients. Technically OB 3 boasts the capability for up to 20 Sony HD 1500 cameras and has a 3Gb/s capable Evertz EQX matrix for routing audio and video signals. Furthermore, it houses a Sony MVS800G vision mixer, a 5.1 Calrec audio mixing desk and a Riedel talkback communication systems.
This equipment will be standardised across the SIS LIVE feet, enabling familiarity and ease of use for clients, supported by a flexible team that understand the unified workings of all SIS LIVE's production facilities.
